I'm playing through Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the first time since, probably, its original release, and I found an NPC that I can't remember coming across. In the brief time between Zelda being taken away by Impa on horseback and Link going to through the Door of Time, you can go into the back alleys in town to find a guard slumped over. This otherwise completely inconsequential character tells you he tried to stave off Gannondorf, who clearly got the best of him, and tells Link that Zelda wanted to give him some item before she left. He then dies.

Ocarina of Time is to my knowledge the first instance of a fish girl falling in love with Link. But it wouldn't be the last instance.
